Part falls off Qantas Jet
Officials are investigating how part of an engine cover fell off a Qantas Airways Boeing 767 Sunday, with the airline saying the part came off as the twin-engine jetliner touched down at Melbourne Airport on a flight from Sydney.
Passengers on Flight QF415 said they could see wires and pipes exposed after the loss of the part, which the airline said was a “fairing panel.”, but Qantas says there had been no safety issue, and that the plane had been repaired and returned to service.
The purpose of the panel is to improve the plane’s aerodynamics and once safely on the ground, the pilot apologised to the 210 passengers on board.
