Passenger arrested for alleged rape on transatlantic flight
A British passenger was arrested for an alleged rape on a red-eye transatlantic flight.
The incident took place on 30 January in business class on a London-bound United Airlines flight.
The woman said she was assaulted while other passengers slept and reported it to cabin crew.
Crew called ahead to police, who detained the 40-year old man.
"The parties were apparently unknown to each other beforehand but had apparently been seen talking to each other and drinking during the flight," the Sun reported, quoting an unnamed source.
"Officers met the aircraft on arrival and arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of rape. He has been released under investigation," a police spokesperson said.
Police forensic checks were carried out in the cabin and the investigation is still ongoing.
