Two pilots and a passenger were yesterday attacked with an axe as an internal flight in Norway came in to land.

According to The Independent newspaper, the man was an asylum-seeker from Algeria, in his thirties.

The newspaper reports that passengers overpowered the man and dragged him out of the cockpit, holding him down until the 18-seater was able to land at Bodoe airport, in the north of the country.

One passenger is quoted as saying: “For a few terrible moments I thought I was going to die; I was picturing my three children in my mind.”

The Independent reports that the two pilots and the passenger are in hospital recovering from head wounds. The hospital reportedly stated that the injuries were “minor” and that the three patients were being kept in intensive care as a precaution.
