Passengers arrested after alleged brawl with police
Cruises sometimes conjure up romantic images or leisurely, lazy days at sea but how abnormal are bloody brawls?
Six Carnival cruise ship passengers were released on bond yesterday after being charged with assault and battery. The passengers, all in their 20s, are being held in Antigua prior to their trial.
The brawl took place after the ship landed on the island aboard the Carnival Victory, said the Antigua News.
Police told the News that the cruisers acted in an “aggressive manner” after an argument with a taxi driver accused of overcharging them.
The brawl led to injured officers. The cruisers, however, said they were defending themselves.
Soshhonnah Henry told the AP the police officers were not in uniform.
“We thought these people were trying to kill us,” she said.
Brawls are apparently not always uncommon.
A Houston man last year said his dream vacation turned into a nightmare when he got into a fight with another passenger. A family said they were minding their own business when a passenger started beating three members with a metal baton, initiating the brawl.
