Passengers stranded after aircraft grounded

Passengers have been left stranded after a Ukrainian aircraft was grounded at various airports in the wake of bankruptcy proceedings against the troubled carrier.

AeroSvit was forced to make cancellations prompting other airlines including Wizz Air to step in with rescue packages for passengers.

It has been reported that the Ukraine airline has filed for bankruptcy but is still operating.

Aircraft operated by AeroSvit have been impounded at various airports.

Wizz Air said passengers in possession of a cancelled Aerosvit flight reservation on routes between Kiev and Budapest or Warsaw can book on Wizz Air’s Katowice-Kiev or Budapest-Kiev routes.

It added that if Aerosvit cancel flights on the London Gatwick – Kiev route this week, it can offer affected passengers rescue fares of GBP 50.99 (+ booking fee) from London Luton.

"We hope that the ongoing disruptions for Aerosvit passengers in Hungary, Poland and the Ukraine can be minimized or avoided.

"This week is a peak travel period due to the Ukrainian holidays and affected passengers experience difficulties to find alternative travel arrangements.

"London rescue fares will be available if Aerosvit cancels any Gatwick-Kiev flights this week," said Daniel de Carvalho, Corporate Communication Manager at Wizz Air.

Aerosvit was founded in 1994 and was operating 80 international routes in 34 countries, according to its website.
