Passengers stranded after airline collapse
France: Cheaper flights could be on cards as Air Lib folds
Thousands of passengers have been stranded after the collapse of France’s second-biggest airline – but the immediate reaction from the travel industry is that flights from the UK to Paris could be cheaper as a result. Furious passengers at Air Lib desks around the world have been demanding an explanation from the carrier after they discovered the airline had collapsed and there appeared to be no way they could get an immediate refund or replacement tickets on another carrier. Low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and EasyJet are no doubt less upset at Air Lib’s demise – both airlines have long wanted to secure more take-off and landing slots at Paris’s Orly airport. And if one or both of the carriers are successful in securing slots at Orly, greater competition for the French flag-carrier Air France is sure to drive UK-France air fares down.
