Paul Gauguin orders two new expedition ships
South Pacific cruise line Paul Gauguin is getting two new luxury expedition ships.
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri agreed a deal with Paul Gauguin parent Ponant for two 230-passenger vessels which are scheduled for delivery in 2022.
The deal is worth around $330 million and includes an option for a third ship.
The ships will feature partial battery power allowing them to sail without emissions n environmentally sensitive areas.
"For the first time in the world of cruising, these two new vessels will cut their engines and cease all emissions each day during each stop, for nearly ten hours per day," said Ponant CEO Jean Emmanuel Sauvee.
"This project fully matches our philosophy of sustainable tourism."
