In April One&Only Resorts announced the appointment of Gérard Sintès as General Manager for One&Only Cape Town, scheduled for opening in October 2009. The resort is set to become South Africa’s most luxurious destination.
Gérard is responsible for overseeing the resort’s pre-opening and handling all related operational matters. Reporting to Paul Jones, President of One&Only Resorts, Gérard is based in the pre-opening offices in Cape Town.
Gérard Sintès first joined Kerzner International in 1999 as the General Manager of One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius. During his seven years at the resort, numerous prestigious accolades were awarded including Best Resort Hotel by The Leading Hotels of the World and Hotel of the Year by Tatler (UK). Gérard rejoins One&Only Resorts from Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, where he held the position of General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, since late 2005. During this time, he also served as Area Manager for Thailand and Myanmar.
He also had a second nine-year stint at Shangri-La when he was General Manager at several of their hotels in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. Gérard began his career at the Hotel Mirabeau in Lausanne, where he also studied Hotel Management at the renowned Ecole Hoteliere.
The 130-key resort will be set out over seven floors including stunning residential apartments in an elegant, contemporary building on Cape Town’s popular Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, overlooking the marina and with views across to Table Mountain. Forty of the resort’s spacious guest rooms will be set on an adjacent green landscaped island in the Waterfront itself. One&Only Cape Town will feature a state-of-the-art spa, the largest in the area and set on its own island. On the dining front, innovative chef Nobu Matsuhisa will bring his signature Japanese inspired menu, with a few South African twists, to Nobu Cape Town – the first Nobu in South Africa and one of the most celebrated global restaurant brands.
