Perth Airport Booms
Business is booming in WA with Perth Airport handling over seven million passengers in the 2005/06 financial year.
The total of 7,135,449 passengers flying in and out of Perth Airport over the last 12 months is the highest ever recorded and represents a 7% increase compared to the last financial year.
Airport General Manager Richard Gates said the increase had come mainly from domestic traffic – up 9% to 5,107,657 million and iternational passenger figures recording an increase of 2.5% to 2,027,792 million.
“Obviously the strong WA economy has had a positive effect on results,” Mr Gates said, adding, “The domestic passenger numbers continue to break records. In fact, we have had 46 consecutive months of domestic passenger growth with June 05/06 recording a staggering 409,153 compared with June 04/05 at 363,304, an increase of 12.6%.”
Mr Gates said the international figures were affected by the terrorist attack in Bali and the subsequent reduction in services, adding “However the fact that there was still an increase over the previous financial year shows that travellers are still eager and confident to fly.”
