‘Phenomenal response’ for Myrtle Beach Sports Center

Friday, 14 Nov, 2014 0

Although still four months away from its grand opening, Myrtle Beach’s new 100,000-square-foot Sports Center is celebrating success already.

John MacDonald, General Manager of the new Myrtle Beach Sports Center has announced the signing of 17 events in the first few months.

"Response has been phenomenal," said MacDonald.

"There are only two weekends still open for the center’s first six months of operation—Easter and Memorial Day."

The facility offers eight high school basketball courts or 16 volleyball courts with retractable curtains and the courts can be configured into four professional basketball courts.

"Basketball and volleyball aren’t the only options, of course," MacDonald says.

"The center has 70,000 square feet of free-span space; it’s designed to host mat sports, table tennis, pickle ball, trade shows, and many other types of events."

"This new facility and its locale in one of the major tourist destinations in the US," added MacDonald.

One of the sports organizations hosting an event next year at Myrtle Beach is the National Travel Basketball Association (NTBA).

NTBA President John Whitley said: "Having the new Myrtle Beach Sports Center allows NTBA to now bring its first-class tournaments to a first-class facility."

"We will be hosting our State and National Championships at the MBSC, and being able to have the games under one roof is simply a win-win for all involved."
