Phew! Crying babies preferred to smelly seatmates
A postscript to the announcement that budget airline Scoot will introduce a ‘child free zone’ on its flights between Australia and Asia.
Children under the age of 12 are banned from sitting in this ScootinSilence area, which will span rows 21 to 25 on its Boeing 777 flights – a total of 41 seats just behind ScootBiz.
A Harris Interactive poll in the US earlier this year showed that 63% of people surveyed said they would rather sit next to a crying baby than a smelly seatmate.
Yet while most flyers are in agreement that they don’t want to share a row with a less-than-fragrant fellow traveller, they’re split on how much they’re willing to listen to their seatmates gab: half of flyers (50%) believe airlines should allow passengers to use mobile phones during flights.
