Philippines carriers grounded for safety concerns
The Philippines’ Civil Aviation Authority (CAAP) has grounded all flights of two low cost airlines after failing safety inspections carried out by aviation regulators from Europe.
CAAP Director General William Hotchkiss cited several ‘safety shortcomings’ of SEAir and SkyJet Airlines.
At SEAir and Skyjet, which operates under the name of Magnum Air, the European safety assessment team found various safety violations which included management structure, accident prevent and flight data management.
Hotchkiss ordered the carriers ‘to cease all operations with immediate effect’ until corrective actions and compliance with aviation safety has been carried out.
Hotchkiss said the airlines’ Air Operator Certificates will be reinstated once all the respective safety concerns have been rectified.
