Pilots sacked after in-flight strip
United States: Air hostess shocked by what she saw in cockpit
Two pilots are reported to have been sacked from their jobs with Southwest Airlines after allegedly stripping off mid-flight
Though the no-frills airline is famous for its laid-back attitude, with in-flight announcements in song and cabin crew encouraged to be “offbeat” and to display a sense of humour, bosses failed to see the funny side after the two men disrobed.
The pilots, who have not been identified, claim that one of them removed his clothes because he spilt coffee on it – and state that they will be appealing against the decision. An air hostess is thought to have discovered the nudity when she delivered paper towels to the pilots.
While there appears to be no specific FAA ban on flying naked, a spokesman told the USA Today that there are rules against behaviour that could distract staff while flying at less than 10,000 feet. “We will not tolerate any offensive behaviour,” he added.
