Plan for ‘greener’ aviation industry
Airlines, airports and aircraft manufacturers have pledged to cut greenhouse gases produced by new planes over the next 15 years.
The BBC reported that new targets had been set by the UK’s aviation industry to reduce the environmental impact of air travel and cut noise pollution caused by passenger aircraft.
The policy comes amid calls from environmentalists for more stringent measures to combat aviation pollution such as incresing air passenger duty, imposing VAT on tickets, abolishing duty free sales and discouraging airport expansion.
There are widespread concerns about the impact on the environment of an expected tripling of air travel over the next 30 years.
