Plane diverted after man smears faeces over both toilets
A plane carrying 245 people had to be diverted after two of its toilets were vandalised with excrement, officials said.
The United Airlines flight from Chicago to Hong Kong was diverted to Alaska on Thursday evening due to a passenger smearing faeces everywhere.
Police said a 22-year-old man, a US resident of Vietnamese origin, was handcuffed by police at Alaska’s Anchorage International Airport and escorted off the plane.
They told Anchorage TV station KTUU he was taken to a hospital for a mental health assessment after being interviewed through a translator.
United said in a statement that flight UA895 was diverted because of ‘a disruptive passenger’.
It said overnight hotel accommodation was provided for affected passengers.
