Police rescue visitors in fire-ravaged Tasmania
Visitors stranded by Tasmania’s bushfires are being escorted out of the affected areas by police.
Five convoys, totalling around 395 cars and 750 people, have been moved out of fire threatened areas.
Police say around 500 cars and 1500 people remain at Nubeena, on the west coast of the Tasmanian peninsula, awaiting further police escorts.
More than 100 properties have been destroyed by fire in Tasmania since last week.
No deaths from the fires have been reported but emergency services crews are conducting property-to-property searches.
As the heat wave intensifies across many parts of Australia, New South Wales is facing some of the worst fire conditions in the state’s history.
More than 20 uncontained fires are reported to be burning across the state.
