Port Authority sues Delta for damages in 2015 LaGuardia crash landing
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey wants Delta Air Lines to pay up for a 2015 hard landing at LaGuardia Airport.
A Delta jet skidded off a runway during a snowstorm in March 2015, and smashed through a perimeter fence and came to a stop just before reaching the icy waters of Flushing Bay.
The Port Authority is now suing the Atlanta carrier for property damage and other costs to the amount of $750,047.
The lawsuit filed in the state supreme court in Manhattan blames the accident on ‘the negligence of Delta and its agents’ including the pilot.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board’s accident report published a year later put most of the blame on pilot error using too much reverse thrust, which resulted in an ‘inability to maintain directional control.’
The MD-88 aircraft was carrying 127 passengers and five crew with 29 suffering minor injuries.
