PortMiami has another record year for cruise traffic
The Cruise Capital of the World got even busier last year.
PortMiami handled an all-time high of 6.8 million cruise passengers for the year ending September 30, 2019.
It translates to a bumper 22% increase on the previous period.
Port management attributes the rise to attracting new business.
This includes the opening of Royal Caribbean International’s Cruise Terminal A, which hosted the world’s largest ship, the Symphony of the Seas.
Other new ships docking at PortMiami last year included Norwegian Bliss, Carnival Horizon, and MSC Armonia.
The strong performance at PortMiami, one of Miami-Dade County’s main economic engines, is great news for our community," said Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
"The growth figures confirm our role as a leading global gateway and demonstrate the continuing draw of the Port."
Additionally, PortMiami secured a further $7.8 billion in economic impact with new terminal developments for Carnival Corp, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Virgin Voyages.
