Portugal imposes quarantine on unvaccinated Brits
New rules come into force today at Portugal border points, imposing a 14-day quarantine on British arrivals not fully vaccinated.
Arrivals landing at mainland Portugal by air, land or sea, require proof they have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine at least two weeks ago.
Portuguese authorities said the measures will last until at least 11 July.
Authorities state quarantine can be done at a residential address ‘or a place indicated by health authorities.’
As mainland Portugal is on the amber list a further 10 days’ isolation is required on return.
Offshore Madeira is exempt from the order.
Children under 12 years of age traveling with vaccinated adults are also exempt
Mainland Portugal is taking a similar measure as Malta, which announced similar rules that take effect later this week.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged fellow EU countries to impose quarantine on arrivals coming from the UK, due to the spread of the Delta variant.
About 30% of the Portugal population are vaccinated so far.
