Thomas Cook has recruited Post Office marketing director Simon Carter in an identical role.

Carter, who’s previous experience includes Virgin, London Electricity and NatWest, will be responsible for overseeing marketing activity across Thomas Cook’s business areas and brands. He joins on October 30.

The role has been handled by head of marketing Kate Knowles for the past three years in the absence of a marketing director. Knowles will report to Carter, a spokeswoman said.

Thomas Cook UK & Ireland CEO Manny Fontenla Novoa said: “We’re sure that Simon will be a real asset to the team. He has a wealth of experience gained within major organisations, delivering extremely successful campaigns to reach new customers and retain existing ones.

“Thomas Cook is a much-loved brand with a broad offer to a wide range of consumers. We are excited to see how Simon can help us make the most of our reputation and further delight our customers.”

Carter said: “Joining Thomas Cook and the travel industry will be a fascinating new challenge. I very much look forward to being part of such a powerful brand and applying my experience to a new industry sector. Travel is one of the world’s most evocative and desirable products, but hugely competitive.

“My role is to enable Thomas Cook’s brand to continue its evolution, while retaining all the qualities that are so well loved by the British public.”
