Pre-Christmas strike action warning at London Luton Airport
Potential strike action at London Luton Airport could impact flights leading up to the busy Christmas period.
The Unite union warns a strike looms as around 80 GH London Ground Handling staff are being balloted for strike action.
They are frustrated over the delay of a £500 recruitment and retention bonus until February 2023.
If they strike, Wizz Air flights would-be most affected
The ballot closes on 1 November.
“It is out of order for the employer to sit on the payment of the £500 promised to our members. There’s a cost of living crisis and our members need every penny of their earnings,” Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said.
“The retention payment needs to be introduced now, not in four months’ time, and Unite’s members have their union’s total support in this dispute.”
Unite filed an emergency pay claim in the summer after the agreement of a 6% rise and £500 retention payment in January.
The company agreed to an extra 5% increase and another £500 retention payment but says the payment will only be paid in February 2023.
Unite claims health and safety standards are being compromised due to understaffing.
