Pricey euro deters searches, says cheapflights.com
The high cost of the euro has knocked Paris, Dublin, Paphos and Majorca out of the top ten flight searches at cheapflights.com’s UK site, according to its latest trends analysis.
And domestic users have been shying away from London too with the site recording a 33% fall in page views for May and June this year compared to last year, dropping it by four places to number six in the top ten. This may be due largely to the poor economic conditions which are dampening down business travel to the capital.
Orlando has seen a 29% increase in page views, pushing it into fourth place in the top ten league while New York, which makes first place every year, has seen a 8.9% increase in page views.
Turkey, which in a recent study by Cooperative Travel was revealed to be now more popular than Spain with its customers, edged into the top ten with Dalaman moving into eighth place after a 17.5% increase in page views. Bangkok is also getting a great deal of interest from users and is now at seventh position in the top ten, shooting up from 14th place.
Cheapflights chief executive officer Chris Cuddy said: “With the current issues facing air travel, it’s interesting to see the changes that are occurring as Cheapflights’ users search for the best value flight deals on both sides of the Atlantic. Whilst in the UK users are still searching for flights to their usual destinations in Spain at this time of year, where many may have favourite ‘repeat’ holiday destinations, a definite trend appears to be emerging for alternative vacation destinations. Non-Euro places with a lower cost of living index seem to be gaining in popularity as well as the value for money USA.â€
