Prom Peru continuing marketing push in Asia
Roseana Guinea Tourism Coordinator of Prom Peru, Asia and Oceania, for Prom sat down with TravelMole.tv to talk about the tourism agency’s strategy and promotional activities in Asia.
Attending ITB Asia for the third time, Guinea says she has seen a growing interest in Asia for Peru tourism.
"We started promoting Peru in Japan 10 years ago and last year we handled 63,000 Japanese tourists. Our second largest market is Australia with 45,000 and we have started marketing in Korea in the last two years," she said
"We have had an amazing response in Korea after conducting a FAM tour with nine Korean travel agencies and to put it into context, we have enjoyed a similar level of success in South Korea in six months that took us 10 years in Japan."
Guinea credits two big events which took place last year putting Peru tourism firmly in the spotlight in South Korea.
There was a Peruvian connection of K-Pop and an immensely popular travel reality TV programme showcasing Peru destinations.
"So now everybody is asking their travel agent for Peru travel packages."
Referring to the ASEAN region, Guinea said: "We address ITB Asia as a regional marketplace to assist tour operators to promote Peru to the Southeast Asia market."
"However our strategy over the next year is to continue to promote to our main markets of Japan, Australia and South Korea, along with China and Hong Kong," she added.
