Qantas announced last week that it would increase its non-stop services between Australia and San Francisco from three to five per week from 26 March 2007.

Executive General Manager of Qantas, Mr John Borghetti, said the airline would also operate supplementary flights between Australia and Los Angeles in June and July 2007, adding, “Qantas resumed services three times a week between Sydney and San Francisco in March 2006, and the destination has quickly established itself as a popular option for people travelling between Australia and the United States.”

“It appeals as a great destination in its own right and is also a good connecting point for other US cities.”  “Given San Francisco’s popularity, Qantas will boost capacity by 66% and operate two additional services each week.”

He added that the new services would replace two of Qantas’ existing services between Sydney and Los Angeles, with “Los Angeles remaining our key US gateway and, even after this change, we will continue to operate 35 services between Australia and Los Angeles and maintain our 40 flights each week between Australia and mainland USA”.

He also said that five of the Los Angeles services each week also continue on to New York and Qantas would also operate 18 extra services between Australia and Los Angeles between 19 June and 28 July 2007, adding, “These seasonal services will provide additional travel opportunities between Australia and the USA and ensure adequate capacity is available during the peak northern summer months.”
