Qantas limits strike disruption
Striking Qantas workers have returned to work after rolling stoppages across the country caused some disruption to services.
More than 6000 domestic passengers across Australia faced delays because of work stoppages by more than 4000 of the airline’s ground staff over pay and conditions, but efforts by Qantas to minimise delays were largely successful.
A union spokesman said no further stoppages were planned for the time being “as the public has been inconvenienced enoughâ€.
Overall, about 150 flights were affected on Tuesday with 28 flights cancelled and others delayed by up to 35 minutes.
Qantas will face its next scheduled disruption on Friday, when aircraft engineers stop work in hangars around the country.
Pilots are also clashing with management over plans to shift Qantas international operations offshore to a new carrier based in Singapore or Malaysia.
Pilots are making in-flight announcements about the issue and defying the uniform code.
