Qantas steps in with flights offer

Qantas chief Alan Joyce told the Seven Network that Qantas and Jetstar would try to run extra flights to help passengers stranded by the collapse of Air Australia.

“If the (Air Australia) passengers come to a Qantas desk, a Jetstar desk, show their ticket, we’ll give them a ticket for the same value they’ve paid with Air Australia, so they don’t have to pay any more and they can try to recover that fare from their travel agencies or their credit card suppliers,’’ he said.

Flight Centre said as many as 10,000 of its customers with future bookings would be affected.

Discounts website Scoopon, which sold more than 2000 tickets for travel on the Melbourne-Phuket route, has sent a customer services representative to the Thai airport to assist stranded passengers.

Scoopon, on its website, is advising passengers stranded in Phuket, or those who have booked but not flown, to email [email protected]

The airline is owned by Strategic Aviation Group, based in Brisbane. It was previously known as Strategic Airlines but relaunched in November 2011 as Air Australia to cash in on underserviced routes.
