Qantas warns of Facebook scam
Qantas has alerted Facebook to a scam in which users were offered the chance to win complimentary first class flights on a fake account on the social media site.
The bogus Qantas Australia page contained a post stating that the airline would be giving away free flights for the rest of the year to celebrate carrying three million passengers since January 1.
To enter the competition, users were invited to ‘like’ and ‘share’ the post. To date, the post has been attracted more than 2,500 ‘likes’ and it has been shared over 6,000 times.
Qantas said in a statement on its legitimate Facebook site: “We’re aware of this fake Facebook account. It is a scam and has nothing to do with Qantas. Facebook has been advised and are currently investigating.
“Our campaigns are always run from our authenticated Facebook page (identified by its authorised blue tick), or through the official Qantas website.”
