Qatar Airways signs on as official airline of the Asian Games
Qatar Airways has been announced as the official airline and prestige partner of the 18th Asian Games which begins in Indonesia next week.
The Games take place from August 18 until September2 in Jakarta and Palembang, Sumatra, hosting athletes from 45 nations across Asia.
It is the second time Qatar Air has sponsored the event as official airline after supporting the 15th Asian Games which took place on home soil in Doha in 2006.
"This highly-anticipated event strengthens our extensive global sporting portfolio and asserts our continuous dedication to celebrating sports as a means of bringing people together," said Akbar Al Baker, group chief executive of Qatar Airways.
"We are tremendously proud to be flying the Qatar team of more than 200 athletes to Jakarta for the event, and we look forward to welcoming all fans to Jakarta and Palembang."
Second only in size after the Olympics for a multi-sport event, the Asian Games hosts 61 different sports.
Qatar Air flies three times a day to the Indonesian capital Jakarta and holiday island Bali.
The airline is also Official Partner and Official Airline of FIFA until the end of the next FIFA World Cup which is hosted by Qatar in 2022.
