Re-vamped Stonehenge criticised by visitors
Visitors to a new £27 million centre at Stonehenge have criticised English Heritage claiming its struggling to deal with the number of visitors.
Tourists have criticised the ticketing and transport from the centre to the prehistoric monument on travel websites.
Many have complained of queuing for more than an hour to board one of two "land trains" that carry 45 people at a time and take 10 minutes to travel the 1½ miles from the centre at Airmen’s Corner to the stones.
Staff and volunteers at the centre, which opened three weeks ago, have also voiced concerns about its ability to cope with thousands of visitors a day.
English Heritage has been forced to hire coaches from local bus companies to deal with the number of tourists and visitors have questioned how the centre will cope during the summer, reports the Daily Mail.
The organisation has admitted that there have been "some issues" and has asked visitors to be patient while it tackles the problems.
Kate Davies, Stonehenge’s general manager, said: "This is a brand new operation, on a completely different scale to the old visitor centre, and naturally during these early days, there have been some issues. But we are solving them.
"We appreciate all the feedback we’ve received and we would ask people to be patient while we iron out the few remaining issues."
