Record European visitors to St Ives – Cornwall
St Ives attracts record numbers of European Tourists
Cornwall in South West England is the most popular UK holiday destination for British visitors according to a recent survey, and the beautiful former fishing village of St Ives is one of the top resorts.
St Ives has always attracted international visitors but this year, the very favourable Sterling/Euro exchange rate is attracting record numbers of European visitors, especially from Germany. Many Germans are attracted to St Ives by the recent TV series ‘Vier Jahrezeiten’, one of many popular films based on the Cornish romantic novels by best-selling local author Rosamunde Pilcher.
The Sail Lofts – St Ives, a new 5 star self-catering development, says that up to 60% of visitors in some hotels and holiday homes are from Germany and that the town is making a big effort to welcome German guests. With the Euro so strong against Sterling, St Ives’ mild climate, stunning Atlantic beach location, art galleries, fine shops and restaurants and a wide range of excursions, all mean that the resort is experiencing an unprecedented level of popularity from visitors from Germany and other European countries and this is having a big impact on tourism in the area.
Philip Griffiths, who runs the Sail Lofts complex of luxury holiday apartments, says: “Despite the downturn in the UK domestic economy, we have seen a large increase in bookings, particularly amongst European visitors. The largest number of visitors are coming from Germany. We have had quite a lot of German visitors in previous years but not nearly as many as are booking to stay this year.â€
Travel by train or air from London is easy and the drive from the Channel port of Dover is perfectly feasible. Some German tour operators are even running coach tours to Cornwall.
Sail Lofts – St Ives offers 12 stunning apartments, just 20 metres from the award winning Porthmeor Beach. All interior designed, original artwork, integrated luxury kitchens and bathrooms, Sail Lofts is widely regarded as among the best holiday accommodation in Cornwall. Prices for a one week stay start from £299 for a one bedroom apartment to £1,032 for a three-storey premier apartment sleeping six people with stunning sea view balcony.
