Record number of guns seized at US airports
Security officials seized a record number of guns at US airports last week.
The Transport Security Administration confiscated 18 firearms on Wednesday, beating the previous record when 13 guns were found in a single day in 2013.
So far in 2014, TSA checkpoints have discovered over 800 guns and during 2013 a record total of 1,813 firearms were seized.
It is the fifth consecutive full year the number of guns confiscated by TSA agents has risen.
Most passengers stopped trying to pass checkpoints with weapons claim to have forgotten they were in their bag, said TSA spokesman Ross Feinstein.
The agency permits registered gun owners to travel with their weapons under restrictive conditions.
Firearms must be declared, unloaded and secured inside a hard-sided container and can only be carried in checked in baggage
