The recruitment industry is very good barometer for the general well-being and confidence in any market, travel being no different.
Over the past 12 months the recruitment market place has been extremely challenging with a real lack of confidence and vacancies, however we are starting to now see signs of positive activity.
The temps market, historically the first indicator of any market change whether up or down, has seen a lot of positive activity recently.
We have registered a significant number of new vacancies over the last month and seen our temp numbers increase significantly from the low points of Q2 this year.
Permanent vacancies have increased too and we have seen the first signs of recruitment activity returning in the corporate market, which is very encouraging.
There is still a long way to go until the market turns to anywhere near normal from a recruitment perspective and also I have heard a number of time the phrase one swallow does not make a summer.
However, when you do see a swallow you can be reasonably confident that it sometime in the not too distant future quite a few more will turn up too!
It’s worth remembering that there is always a window of opportunity for businesses that have their recruitment strategies in place coming out of a recession.
There are still high numbers of very capable travel professionals looking for work so now could be a very good time to look at head count and skill set requirements going forward and recruit the talent before your competitors do.
