Regional airports feel pain of BA strikes

The British Airways strikes made more of an impact on regional airports than on London Heathrow, according to new figures.
Airports operator BAA said the Unite walk-outs meant there was a 0.1% drop-off in passenger traffic at Heathrow in June whereas the likes of Glasgow and Aberdeen suffered by 7% and 4% respectively year-on-year.
Meanwhile Heathrow had 3.2% fewer flights jetting out or in during June but chief executive Willie Walsh’s plan to place passengers on other flights seems to have dissipated the impact of this figure.
London Stansted was not affected by the industrial action but still saw a huge drop off in passengers using the airport – almost 100,000 fewer people (5.2%) decided to use Stansted this June compared to last June.
This continues a trend for the airport – there was an 11.9% drop in passengers in June 2009 compared to the year before.
