Relief for cruisers as Galveston port reopens
The Port of Galveston has been reopened with the first of the stranded cruise ships due to dock at the port later today, Friday.
Carnival Cruise Line said Carnival Freedom will be first to dock at the port to disembark passengers from the previous delayed cruise and passengers for the scheduled September 2 sailing will embark on Saturday.
Carnival Valor will also disembark on Friday.
Valor’s August 31 sailing was already cancelled and next up is a departure on September 4.
Carnival Breeze is scheduled to arrive at the port on Saturday morning.
Royal Caribbean also said the Liberty of the Seas will dock in Galveston on Friday.
However cruisers departing this weekend via flights into Houston may still face disruption.
Houston’s two airports reopened but both are operating a minimal service while airlines get the required flight crews and aircraft in place.
"The plan is to begin a phased return to service, with full service expected by this weekend," the Houston Airport System said in a statement.
"Many roads around the city of Houston are still unsafe for travel."
