Reservations required for iconic Hawaii site
One of Hawaii’s most popular natural attractions is taking action to curb overcrowding. The Diamond Head State Monument on Oahu will require a reservation to visit for out-of-state travellers.
It will become effective May 12 with reservations open 14 days before. Diamond Head is one of the state’s most visited sites, the Department of Land and Natural Resources says. Residents have free access without reservations subject to visitor numbers on the day.
“The new reservation system will mitigate environmental impacts sustained by foot traffic and reduce vehicle congestion in the park,” the DLNR said.
