Resorts World Genting hotel reclaims title of world’s largest hotel
The flagship hotel at Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting has regained its crown as the world’s largest hotel.
Following a refurbishment and major extension, First World Hotel has increased its capacity to 7,351 rooms.
The three-star hotel had previously held the world record from its launch in 2006 until 2013, when it had 6,116 rooms.
"We are very pleased to once again receive this recognition. The hotel has received over 35.5 million guests over the nine years since 2006," said Edward Holloway, senior vice president of Resorts World Genting, after being officially recognised again by Guinness World Records.
Resorts World Genting is operated by Genting, which is a major global casino operator with resorts in Asia, Europe and North America.
Resorts World Genting is currently being expanded to include a new RM1 billion movie theme park called Twentieth Century Fox World, due for completeion next year.
First World Hotel is likely to lose its crown again in two years.
The $3.5 billion Abraj Kudai hotel project is planned for Mecca, Saudi Arabia and will reportedly have 10,000 rooms.
