Responsible tourism alliance creates alternative to mass Thai tourism
Bamboo Design & Construction Workshops, Chiang Mai 2013
‘Bamboo and eco- design Workshops and Seminars’ are to be conducted during the construction of the ‘Sanpathong Sustainable Agricultural Centre,’ Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The Sanpathong Farm Stay property will host participants attending each of the 4 workshops held during the construction of this stunning, cutting edge Bambooroo designed structure that takes the form of a giant fish trap.
Funded by KUONI Switzerland it part of a wider initiative in partnership with VWB (Volunteers Without Borders) and local tour operator Track of the Tiger T.R.D. in support of responsible tourism and sustainable 2nd revenue stream development for tourism SME’s and the communities they work in.
The centre is one of 70 -100 SME & community based local tourism operated attractions, activities, workshops, courses, along the soon to be opened Sanpathong Tourist Route, a pilot project – and one of ten such routes – (1000 attractions) being established by the Responsible Tourism Alliance as an alternative to mass tourism in northern Thailand and beyond.
Another venture is the Sanpatong Farm Stay – on which KUONI CH has sponsored the construction of a stunning, ‘Sustainable Agriculture Training Centre’ from cured bamboo in the shape of an inverted fish trap. The construction itself will be used as a platform on which to run bamboo design and construction workshops. FACEBOOK PAGE
