Responsible tourism gets key role at ITB Asia
Forums and clinics to make better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit
Responsible Tourism is about "making better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit." Say its practitioners.
This year’s the Responsible Tourism Forum at ITB Asia 2012 in Singapore will unravel inspiring stories from across Asia of real life accounts of people or companies who have made a difference. It will also feature winners of Wild Asia’s Responsible Tourism Awards 2012.
Events include:
- Mainstreaming Responsibility in Tourism presented by Zainab Kakal, The Blue Yonder Associates
- Greening the supply chain to increase profit in business presented by Professor Geoffrey Lipman, Greenearth Travel, ICTP
- New media as a strategic communication in sustainable tourism presented byJens Thraenthart, Dragon Trail
- Certification and beyond: The GSTC Case presented by Erika Harms, Global Sustainable Tourism Council
The Responsible Tourism Event is open to all participating in ITB Asia trade show. Members of the media are invited to cover the event. This event will open up possibilities for the media to learn more about responsible tourism in Asia and speak to the pioneers, innovators and practitioners in responsible tourism.
Responsible Tourism Clinics – Ask the Experts
Participants can engage in a one-on-one session with RT experts from various fields including sustainable architecture, digital marketing and tourism management. They come with breadth and depth of knowledge and experience that would be significant in dealing with challenges and issues of implementing responsible tourism practices. Topics covered at the clinics include:
- Holistic property management (Andrew Jones, Sanctuary Resorts)
- Responsible tourism reporting (Raj Gyawali, Social Tours)
- Practical Applications of Social Media to Increase Profit in Business (Ajay Jain, Kunzum)
- Tourism as a tool for conservation (Raj Basu, HELP Tourism)
