Rex extends regional flight cuts
Rex plans to extend regional flight cuts throughout most of 2024.
It started cutting services last year due to due to continuing supply chains issues that heavily impacted availability of aircraft spare parts.
This especially affected the supply of aircraft engine parts.
Rex will continue regional network reductions until 27 October 2024, it said.
“Rex prefers to reduce services if it does not have the resources rather than continue to sell tickets for phantom flights,” the airline said.
“Rex never cancels a flight last-minute for expediency or for cash flow purposes,” said Rex’s GM of Network Strategy, Warrick Lodge.
“Rex is committed to the rebuilding of its regional network from 27 October 2024, subject to the situation improving.”
Rex is Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline operating a fleet of 57 Saab 340 and 10 Boeing 737-800NG aircraft.
It flies to 56 destinations across all states in Australia.
