Robbie Williams to perform in Austrian ski resort
Get your skis on ladies because pop god Robbie Williams has confirmed he will play a concert in the Ischgl, the Austrian ski resort, next May.
As part of his Swing Both Ways tour next year, he will take his entire Big Band to the resort where he will perform the traditional end of season top of the mountain gig.
In what the resort described as a "highly technical operation", a massive stage will be specially constructed at over 7,000 feet.
This will be the first time the Take That and solo artist will have performed in such an unusual high altitude setting.
The concert will be at lunchtime on Saturday May 3, when the slopes around the stage will still be deep in snow.
The crowd of 30,000, mainly skiers and boarders, don’t have to buy a ticket for the concert, only a lift pass to get to the open air venue. However, lift tickets on the day are priced at a premium.
Ischgl tourist director Andreas Steibl said: "We are delighted that Robbie has agreed to include our resort as part of his European tour – he is at the peak of his popularity so it is fitting that he should play a concert on a mountain peak.
"This is a very special season for us as we celebrate 50 years since the first cable-car opened here, and to get one of the world’s biggest stars to perform here will be the perfect end to the winter. We consider it is a massive coup for us and we know that Robbie will put on a brilliant show."
The first top of the mountain concert was held 20 years ago and over the years it has hosted stars such as Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, The Killers and Deep Purple. Mariah Carey was one of the most recent guests.
Ischgl is at the western end of the Tirol, in the Paznaun Valley, and Robbie will perform against a backdrop of the Silvretta range of mountains.
