Rothwell leaves TUI Travel
TUI Travel deputy CEO Peter Rothwell has left the company.
His departure on December 31 follows the merger between the Thomson parent and First Choice which resulted in First Choice boss Peter Long becoming chief executive.
Rothwell is to “pursue other interests,” according to a statement.
“Peter believes that having helped Peter Long during the 100 day review the time is now appropriate for him to pursue other interests outside TUI Travel,” the statement said.
TUI Travel chairman Dr Michael Frenzel said Rothwell had been an integral part of the organisation and drove “enormous change”.
“I am sure he will make a similar valuable contribution as he pursues his interests in the future,” he said.
Rothwell is being replaced by Johan Lundgren, managing director of TUI’s northern European business.
Rothwell originally joined Thomson Holidays as a graduate trainee in 1982 before becoming marketing director of Lunn Poly.
After a return to the operator in 1993, Rothwell joined rival Airtours before returning as CEO of Thomson Travel Group in 2002.
The then became TUI Northern Europe chief executive and a member of the TUI AG board.
He was deputy CEO of the mergered group since September.
