Royal Caribbean and Carnival partner up for new St Lucia port
Rivals Royal Caribbean Cruises and Carnival Corp are teaming up to construct and operate a new cruise port in St Lucia.
They signed a MoU with St Lucia for a brand new cruise port in Vieux Fort on the southern tip of Saint Lucia, which will be able to handle the largest cruise ships.
In addition the two companies will work together to manage Saint Lucia’s existing cruise terminal in Castries.
It is a ‘historic’ agreement, says Saint Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet.
"We thank our partners Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean for their continued confidence in our amazing destination," Chastanet said.
"It is essential that we continue to diversify what we have to offer, grow our brand and ensure that different sectors in our island’s economy benefit from the growth in cruise tourism."
Currently Carnival Corp and Royal Caribbean brands account for about three-quarters of all cruise traffic in St Lucia.
