Royal Caribbean mandates travel insurance for unvaccinated guests on Florida cruises

Monday, 30 Jun, 2021 0

Royal Caribbean International, restricted from asking for vaccination proof on cruises out of Florida, will now make unvaccinated passengers show proof of travel insurance.

The new policy comes in after two unvaccinated children tested positive on Adventure of the Seas last week and two others tested positive on sister cruise line Celebrity Cruises.

Florida law forbids companies from forcing customer to prove their vaccination status which is  technically at odds with the CDC’s guidance.

The insurance policy must be a minimum of $25,000 per person for medical expenses and $50,000 per person in travel expenses, Royal Caribbean said.

This would be required for children which make up the majority of unvaccinated cruisers due to vaccination drives prioritizing adults.

The cruise line said proof of travel insurance is a condition of boarding the ship and it must be shown at check-in.

It applies to all cruises from 1 August until the end of the year.
