Royal Caribbean passenger missing at sea
Royal Caribbean was forced to cancel a planned stop at Nassau in the Bahamas for Allure of the Seas after a passenger fell overboard as the ship sailed from Fort Lauderdale towards the Caribbean island.
The cruise line said the ship returned to search for the 21-year-old woman, who is believed to have gone overboard about 47 miles from Fort Lauderdale.
Two other cruise ships that were nearby at the time, the Carnival Fascination and Majesty of the Seas, joined a sea and air search, helping to scour 320 square miles of the Atlantic, but the woman was not found.
Another passenger onboard the Allure reported seeing the woman, from Tennesse, go overboard and the ship’s camera footage confirmed the report.
When the disappearance was reported, the ship’s captain turned the Allure around and alerted the U.S. and Bahamian Coast Guard.
Allure spent yesterday at sea and is scheduled to arrive in St Maarten, one of its scheduled ports of call on Wednesday.
