Royal Caribbean sending another Quantum-class ship to China
Royal Caribbean said it will deploy yet another big ship in China, with the 4,180-passenger Ovation of the Seas joining Quantum of the Seas in the Far East.
The cruise line takes delivery of Ovation in April 2016 and it will head straight to China rather than Europe or the Caribbean.
Ovation of the Seas will homeport in Tianjin, near Beijing.
Sister ship Quantum of the Seas leaves its current home at Bayonne, New Jersey in May for Shanghai, where it will sail year-round.
“We are furthering our commitment to China by bringing two of the world’s newest and most advanced Quantum-class cruise ships to the region,” said Royal Caribbean President Michael Bayley.
The addition of Ovation of the Seas will bring to five the number of ships deployed in China at least for part of the year – more than any other cruise line.
Bayley said Royal Caribbean is also investing in talent to fill the thousands of vacancies that will be generated by a five ship fleet.
It has partnered with Tianjin Maritime College on a cruise ship curriculum to train culinary and restaurant service staff.
