Royal Caribbean ship collision causes 42-foot gash
Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas was bound for an unscheduled stop in New Orleans for repairs following a collision with a concrete pier in Costa Maya.
Following repairs, the ship is headed back to Costa Maya, according to cruise line officials.
The collision led to a 42-foot “football-shaped” puncture in the ship’s bow on its starboard side. The incident happened as the ship was trying to dock.
Passengers inconvenienced by the stop were flown back on charter flights. Current guests also received a $250 per-stateroom credit.
No one was injured in the collision.
