Royal Caribbean warns guests over Bahamas crime

Saturday, 27 Dec, 2018 0

Royal Caribbean is warning cruisers to exercise extra caution during shore visits in Nassau.

A letter penned by Anthem of the Seas’ captain Srecko Ban advises guests to have a ‘heightened sense of awareness.’

The letter asks guests not to venture too far from tourist areas and recommends organized tours.

"Non-violent crimes, such as theft of personal items, are the most common types of crimes being committed," it said.

"Visitors to Nassau, like visitors to all major foreign cities in the world today, need to be mindful of their personal safety."

The line advises guests to leave valuables inside the stateroom safe, be discreet when handling cash in public, and steer clear of certain areas of Nassau after dark.

These include the Sand Trap and the Fish Fry.

The U.S. government banned employees from visiting the Sand Trap earlier this year due to crime levels.

Although petty crime and harassment remains a problem, violent crime is actually declining according to official data.

Murder and armed robbery has declined this year compared to 2017.

"If you happen to be confronted by a criminal just remember that money and valuables can be replaced. Your safety and security, and that of our crew members, is always foremost in our minds," the letter added.
