Ryanair cuts ski fares after TravelMole probe

Saturday, 13 Sep, 2012 0

Ryanair has dropped the price of selected ski flights after a TravelMole investigation revealed the airline’s fares were higher than its rival’s, despite its claim to always be cheaper.

Spokesman Stephen McNamara admitted Ryanair’s initial fares from London to Salzburg had been undercut by easyJet, but he said Ryanair had since reduced its fares.

At the time of writing this article, Ryanair’s cheapest one-way ticket to Salzburg was £21.99 including taxes and compulsory charges; easyJet’s was £31.99 including an administration fee of £9. For passengers without a Ryanair Cash Passport or prepaid MasterCard, the fare would be £27.99, still £4 cheaper than easyJet’s.

"We have teams of people monitoring fares all the time, not just easyJet’s but all of the airlines, and we promise we will always be cheaper," said McNamara.

When asked how Ryanair could guarantee always to offer lower fares when TravelMole’s research found this was not always the case, McNamara said passengers who booked a better fare with a rival carrier could apply to Ryanair for 150% of the cost.

However, this information is not highlighted on Ryanair’s website.
