Ryanair demands Stansted security breach answers
Stansted’s largest carrier Ryanair has demanded action over yesterday’s security breach at the airport by campaigners protesting against airport expansion.
The budget airline was forced to cancel more than 50 flights to and from the airport due to the protest which shut the runway for two hours.
Ryanair called on the airport’s operator BAA to explain why protestors from environmental group Plane Stupid were able to breach Stansted security at 03.00 and why it took more than five hours to remove them from the taxi-way.
The airline claimed that thousands of passengers had their travel plans interrupted as a result.
A spokesman said: “We need to know what measures the BAA is putting in place to prevent these repeated security failures.â€
