Ryanair suspends two Cork routes
Routes from Cork to East Midlands and Prestwick are to be closed by Ryanair this autumn.
The no-frills carrier claimed increased charges from the Irish airport of 20% had led to the decision.
Daily East Midlands flights will cease on October 26 followed by the Prestwick service on October 28.
CEO Michael O’Leary said the airline would not absorb a 20% rise in costs to keep the two routes open.
“A 20% increase in airport charges on these routes reduces our ability to offer really low fares at a time of higher oil prices and these higher costs will make these two new routes loss making this winter,†he said.
